Ooooooooooklahoma!

Mommy and Evan missed Daddy...so they got a wild hair yesterday and decided to travel to Oklahoma to see him. We ended up going to Oklahoma City and walking around the canal at Bricktown...which was VERY cool. Evan got to ride one of the "sail"boats on the canal. He entertained the other passengers with intermittent clapping and cries of "pretty cool!" Too bad he was louder than the boat captain/tour guide.

As is the railroad's custom, rather than being stranded in Oklahoma for 36 hours as Bryan has been lately, he got RIGHT OUT on his rest this time. And so, sleepyeyed, Evan and Mommy headed back to Fort Worth at 6:00 a.m. It was still worth it, though...and Evan will certainly nap well today.

P.S. Bryan is embarrassed because he says he's wearing this shirt every time I take pictures. On his behalf, I want to assure you that he DOES indeed own other shirts and wears them on a regular basis. :) :) :) :)

Enjoy the pics! As always, you can click on the slideshow...

Froggie went a courtin'...

Okay...so we got Evan one of those cool harness thingies so we can take him out to festivals and such without fear of losing him. He loves his new froggie friend. After a long conversation when they first met ("Hi froggie! How are you???")...Evan was very excited to learn that froggie could ride on his back. Photos for your enjoyment...

And no...we are not ashamed to "leash" our child. :)

Family vacation...

We managed to steal away for a much needed family vacation at nearby Lake Bridgeport. We didn't do a whole lot other than just "be"...and it was EXACTLY what the doctor ordered.

Here are numerous photos of Evan enjoying our rental cabin. Click on any photo in the slideshow to be taken to the web album (bigger photos and control of slideshow speed). Enjoy!

You may want to buy roller skates...

...before they make their own roller skates out of zoo train parts.

Evan--0, Tire Swing--1

Poor Evan once again fell victim to the ongoing ferocity of playground equipment. Amidst rising temperatures and rising tempers, he crossed in front of a classmate who was swinging to and fro on a tire swing. The result? A sad little fat lip.

So of course we got another one of those daycare forms sent home. You know...the ones they have to fill out to acknowledge that your kid got banged up on their watch. Good thing I don't have to fill these out for mishaps here at the house! Anyhoo...the corrective action recommended on this form stated something like, "make sure that Evan and his friends are aware of their surroundings."

Evan and his friends are all 2-3 year olds. I don't hold much hope for interest in their surroundings...much less awareness of them.

He's a gamer, though. The lip didn't keep him from sucking down copious amounts of chips and salsa at the mexican restaurant last night. He grimaced every once in a while...but my boy played through the pain.

He was shy with the pictures today. I had to chase him around a good 5 minutes to get this shot of his lip. He kept saying, "no picture, Mommy. NO PICTURE!" And then he hid in the curtains.

He'll thank me one day for my persistence. I know it.

Chapter 457 in "My Child's a Genius..."

Okay. So I've officially become one of "those moms." You know the type. The ones who run to the telephone and call everyone they know when baby has his first (or any other particularly interesting) poo. The ones who swear any indiscretion on the part of their child is more than likely due to teething or being tired. And the ones who swear their child is brilliant.

But it ain't braggin' if it's true...right? Humor me here, people. You're reading this...so you must care a little bit.

Evan, once again, astonished me this evening. He was sitting at the kitchen table happily eating his Braum's cheeseburger (don't judge me)...when all of a sudden he just starts singing, "Mommy...one-two-three agua! One-two-three agua!" When I started singing along (mistakenly thinking he had just made up a new song and that I should be a good mother and support his creativity), he said, "Noooooo Mommy...right dere (there)...one-two-three agua." Turns out he was pointing to my water bottle and his two sippy bottles. The little guy was actually COUNTING the water bottles. I was floored.

Genius? Luck? Madness? You decide.

We have also been amused of late at his antics while chasing around the cat. I might add that WE are far more amused than the cat is. His newest thing is following her around singing, "Puss in Boots...Puss in Boots..." We have no earthly idea where he picked this up...and his teacher at school doesn't know either. Hmmmmmm...

It makes us laugh, regardless. And didn't we all have kids so we could be entertained?

Just to make you smile...

This picture just makes me smile. Probably because he's got his little hands clasped so carefully behind his back, oblivious to Mommy sneaking up behind him with the camera.

I love this kid.
